AVG Crashes Hot and Crowded Cloud Backup Party

AVG Crashes Hot and Crowded Cloud Backup Party

By Doug Barney

If all this MSP Today reporter covered was new cloud backup tools, he would still be a terribly busy man. And these providers are both large and small – and everything in between.

On the large, make it that huge side is security giant AVG Technologies. AVG already has 172 million security customers and now wants to gain a footprint in backup the new AVG CloudCare with Online Backup (OLB).

Like many storage providers, AVG wants to move CloudCare OLB through the channel such as MSPs. Part of that plan is integration with AVG CloudCare, already aimed at MSPs.

“Our desire to make the life of the small business partner and their customers as easy as possible drives everything we do in the development of AVG CloudCare,” said Mike Foreman, General Manager, SMB, AVG Technologies. “We see online backup and data protection as a natural extension for those partners already providing frontline security services to their customers. With this in mind we have fully integrated online backup into AVG CloudCare so that small businesses can trust their IT providers to manage their data protection needs through the same single pane of glass.”

Reseller Aztec Computers is already on board. “We have found the AVG Online Backup easy to setup and use for our clients," said Louise Roberts, office manager with the UK-based reseller. “We have one client already using the service successfully and will be also using it to back up our own server. Now that we have tested it we will shortly be offering AVG CloudCare OLB to the rest of our clients.”

CloudCare Kudos

The Tolly Group this year tested remote security administration tools.

“In these tests, AVG CloudCare was the most comprehensive cloud-based endpoint security management solution - meeting all nine of the functionality criteria under review,” AVG said.

“In comparison with the competing platforms tested, the Tolly Group determined that AVG CloudCare currently offers the most comprehensive management functionality including its easy-to-use, intuitive user interface; seamless, integrated “push” install; customizable alerts and pre-defined reports; quarantine management via cloud console; ability to temporarily enable/disable endpoint security services; wake-on-LAN and complete remote control.”

CloudCare, introduced last year, is the main tool AVG pitches to MSPs and even has a special portal to serve that channel. CloudCare helps MSP partners by providing administration of customer sites through the cloud.

CloudCare also has alerts, custom reports, automatic upgrades, and single click product deactivation or installation.
