A brand new deal has been forged via a unique new OEM partnership for salesforce.com. ForgeRock Inc., a provider of open source identity and access management (IAM) solutions, has teamed with salesforce.com to create the new Salesforce Identity Connect software solution.
The new offering is designed to give enterprises a way to integrate and centrally manage their multiple on-premises identity directories through one cloud-based offering. It is built on ForgeRock’s Open Identity Stack and will act as an intermediary to connect multiple directories across cloud and enterprise environments.
According to Mike Ellis, CEO of ForgeRock, the growing prevalence of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement is changing the way companies do business, and is a driving factor behind salesforce.com’s new offering. “I think one of the key things is that this industry is really seeing a major influxion point,” said Ellis. “Identity solutions are required to enable better customer identity and customer identity value.”

ForgeRock recognized that movement early on, and the company’s offerings are the culmination of three years of development and growth. Founded by Sun Microsystems executives, ForgeRock boasts more than 200 customers with names like Geico and State Farm. While they sell direct, they also market to MSPs and system integrators.
"We are delivering Salesforce Identity Connect to create a bridge between existing on-premise directory solutions and Salesforce," said Chuck Mortimore, vice president of product management, Salesforce Identity, salesforce.com. "Salesforce selected ForgeRock because of their leadership in delivering an agile, highly scalable, easy-to-customize set of identity services for extending user identities beyond the traditional firewall and into the cloud, providing a clear path for CIOs to embrace the cloud as the identity platform of the future."
“We are very much on the forefront of providing an open platform that provides solutions for any device in any environment,” said Daniel Raskin, vice president of marketing at ForgeRock. “It’s not a niche solution; it is a complete platform of identity capabilities.”
Raskin added that salesforce.com recognizes that most enterprises already have identity infrastructure in place on premises. Bringing “behind the firewall” identities into the cloud in a controlled fashion creates challenges, and that is where Salesforce Identity Connect comes into play.
The solution enables users to easily and securely manage, provision, federate and reconcile user identities in real time between enterprise applications and the Salesforce Platform. This is done automatically and includes logging and monitoring.
“It’s a great step from the standpoint of broadening the context of the value of the identities behind the firewall,” added Ellis. The solution is now generally available through salesforce.com.
