Apprenda Named Early Leader in Private Cloud CEAP by Gartner

By Erin Harrison

Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) firm Apprenda is in the company of two of the biggest names in cloud computing – Amazon and Microsoft – as an early leader in cloud-enabled application platforms (CEAP), according to a new report released by Gartner.

The report, entitled “Comparing Cloud Platform Options for .Net Applications,” which also evaluates Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, revealed that private PaaS via “Cloud Enabled Application Platforms” (CEAP), a software product, is one of three options for developing and deploying .net cloud applications.

Organizations are looking for cloud adoption use cases for all their major application platforms, including .net on Windows, according to Eric Knipp, managing vice president for Gartner Technical Professionals.

“Many enterprise organizations are turning toward private platform-as-a-service (PaaS) to gain the benefits of PaaS while avoiding the business and technical risk that come with public cloud computing,” Knipp said in a statement.

The report reviews Microsoft Windows Azure for Public cloud PaaS, Amazon Web Services for Iaas+Windows Server for IaaS deployments and Apprenda for private cloud PaaS using CEAP.

“We are honored to be mentioned alongside Microsoft and Amazon Web Services – arguably two of the biggest names in enterprise cloud computing,” said Sinclair Schuller, CEO of Apprenda. “Our platform has been adopted by leading global companies including JP Morgan, AmerisourceBergen and Symantec, and we will continue to innovate the PaaS market as adoption grows in 2013 and beyond.”

The report evaluates .net in the cloud project scenarios like hybrid, SaaS for sale, migration, development and testing in addition to meeting optimized project goals like improvements in time to market, flexibility, capacity utilization, cloud market ecosystems and risk avoidance.

In May, Apprenda joined the new Citrix Ready Worx Verified Partner Program extending and promoting mobile app security and controls to the 260,000 existing Citrix enterprise customers and over 10,000 resellers via the Citrix Worx App Gallery.
