Savvis Makes 10 Global Data Center Expansions to Meet Demands

By Laura Stotler

Cloud infrastructure and data center giant Savvis is expanding its global footprint and responding to increasing demand for managed and cloud services. The service provider, part of parent company CenturyLink, announced 10 worldwide data center expansions including new centers in Hong Kong and London.

Savvis is also expanding eight existing data centers to meet what it describes as growing demand for enterprise cloud, managed hosting, colocation and network services. The new facilities and expansions will add around 85,000 square feet of new space to the service provider's global presence.

The expansion will also boost Savvis' total data center space to more than 2.4 million square feet, comprising more than 50 data centers in North America, Europe and Asia. Additions and expansions in Boston, Atlanta, London and Singapore were completed in April, with a separate facility expansion in London slated to be finished in September. A Washington D.C. expansion was finished this month, with additions in Dallas, Piscataway, N.J., Tampa and Hong Kong scheduled for completion over the summer and through to November.

The expanded global footprint will be utilized to provide IT infrastructure solutions including cloud, managed hosting and colocation services over a variety of advanced networks. Services are designed to keep customers competitive in the expanding and evolving global marketplace.

"Whether it's empowering stock trades in the global market, pulling data from the cloud to deliver life-saving medical treatments or simply sending e-cards to friends across the world, the foundational technology that makes it all possible resides in a data center," said Jeff Von Deylen, president of Savvis. "By expanding our footprint, we're giving businesses additional strategic, secure locations and interconnectivity opportunities for growing their capabilities and core business offerings through infrastructure outsourcing."
