Hughes Network Systems Chooses Fortinet to Power Distributed Enterprise MSSP Offering

By Laura Stotler

Hughes Network Systems has chosen Fortinet for its new distributed enterprise Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) solution. Fortinet's high performance network security functionality will be combined with Hughes' WAN optimization technology in the offering.

The new solution will power the recently introduced HughesON Managed Network Services, which are designed to meet demanding security and application performance needs of multi-branch organizations. These include retailers, government agencies, restaurants, petroleum and the finance industry. Hughes is a provider of broadband satellite solutions as well as managed network services.

The hardware design and custom chipset architecture from Fortinet form the FortiGate platform, a customer premises equipment (CPE) network security device geared specifically toward MSSPs. The Fortinet System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture lets MSSPs offer integrated, multi-threat protection across all points of customers' networks without sacrificing performance.

Fortinet also provides the FortiOS 5.0 operating system, offering flexibility, management, security and control. It provides a single pane of glass for management as well as centralized analysis that ensures consistent policy creation and enforcement, and also minimizes deployment and configuration challenges. Additional features include flow-based inspection and integrated wireless controller capabilities that enable MSSPs to monitor and protect customer networks from the core to endpoints, for both wired and wireless traffic.

"The unique integration of Hughes' performance optimization technology and Fortinet's security technologies enable highly cost effective, next-generation security and networking for distributed enterprises," said Sampath Ramaswami, senior director of strategic planning, North American Enterprise Division at Hughes. "We are excited to have Fortinet providing a key underlying platform for our new HughesON Managed Network Services."

"This is a significant collaboration for Fortinet, as Hughes is a leading provider of managed services and solutions for enterprises and governments globally," said John Maddison, vice president of marketing for Fortinet. "Today's announcement represents Fortinet's ongoing commitment to MSSPs and our desire to be the number one network security solutions provider for MSSPs."
