Zadara Storage VPSA Service Expands to Cover New Region

By Laura Stotler

The Virtual Private Storage Array (VPSA) service from Zadara Storage is now available in Amazon Web Services' (AWS) U.S. West region, the company announced. The new availability is in addition to existing availability in the AWS U.S. East region.

Zadara is a provider of cloud block storage with a focus on bringing private storage to the public cloud. The company offers remote asynchronous replication between storage volumes in AWS U.S. East and AWS U.S. West, and the new capabilities are the latest addition to the Zadara Storage VPSA enterprise features.

The new capabilities make it possible to perform seamless failover of applications among AWS regions in the event of an outage or disaster, for example. The on-demand VPSA block and file storage solution includes virtual SAN and NAS with dedicated drives, RAID level selection, dual controllers and volume-wise IO throttling. Additional features include volume sharing and clustering, full performance metering and hourly usage billing.

VPSAs may be directly connected to EC2 instances through iSCSI and NFS. The storage solution is designed to offer security and data privacy and provides encryption both in-flight and at-rest. It also includes dedicated hardware and network resources for each client. The new asynchronous remote mirroring capability lets customers quickly switch applications among regions. This is useful for disaster recovery as well as in response to shifts in regional demand, network outages or slowdowns or for planned downtime.

"Zadara's many customers in the AWS U.S. East region are already enjoying unmatched enterprise-class storage services," said Nelson Nahum, CEO and co-founder of Zadara Storage. "With the addition of VPSA service in the U.S. West region and remote replication across regions, we make a great thing even better. We are already famous for enabling the running of enterprise applications in the cloud and, with these additions, we add yet another layer of resilience."
