ManageEngine Cracks Open New MSP Password Tool

ManageEngine Cracks Open New MSP Password Tool

By Doug Barney

Passwords can sometimes be everyone’s worst nightmare, especially for ITs who must make sure passwords aren’t cracked, and at the same time ensure that users can access the resources they need to get their jobs done.

MSPs have these same headaches and often have a two-fold task: outsource the management of an enterprise’s passwords and handle their own internal password needs as employees and customers need to access their network.

ManageEngine hopes to lick these problems with its new privileged password management tool, Password Manager Pro, aimed directly at MSPs. The software, recently adapted for MSP from an existing tool, is now in beta.

Password Manager Pro MSP Edition offers a single console through which MSPs can manage customers’ privileged passwords, but at the same time keep this data separate from other customers. It also tracks how passwords are used, providing an audit trail as to who did what and when with each password.

The company claims the tool requires no configuration and is fully secure.

"Identity theft often lies at the root of modern-day cyber-attacks. Cyber-criminals are increasingly targeting login credentials of employees and administrator passwords to gain access to IT resources through various techniques," said Rajesh Ganesan, director of product management at ManageEngine. "Since MSPs manage the IT infrastructure for many clients, the risk level is very high, and they are looking for a secure and reliable solution for privileged password management."

The new ManageEngine tool is policy-driven and automated, and specifically tailored for MSPs. "While there are many good enterprise-class privileged password management solutions on the market, they do not cater to the specific needs of MSPs. The ManageEngine Password Manager Pro MSP Edition bridges this crucial gap by offering an easy-to-implement yet affordable password management solution that provides effective security protection to both the service provider and all its customers," said Ganesan.

4 Tools for MSPs

Password Manager Pro MSP Edition is one of four ManageEngine tools aimed at MSPs.

Another is IT360, an IT management tool designed to manage and monitor applications, networks and servers for performance and availability. The company recently added search to its IT360 tool.

The third is Desktop Central MSP, a Desktop and Mobile Device Management tool that includes asset management, software deployment, remote control, patch management, configuration, USB device management and power management.

Last is ServiceDesk Plus, which combines help desk with asset management.
