Converge EMS 1.1 Service Management Suite from Transition Networks Facilitates Provisioning of Carrier Ethernet Services

By Laura Stotler

A new service management suite that enables quick and efficient provisioning of end-to-end carrier Ethernet services has been announced by Transition Networks, Inc. The company, a subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc., has released its Converge 1.1 Element and Service Management System (EMS).

The new offering is a comprehensive CE 2.0 service suite providing rapid service activation through service templates built with a number of predefined service definitions. These include EPL, EVPL, E-LAN and EVP-LAN services, as well as a set of custom service offerings.

Transition Networks' new Converge EMS 1.1 program is designed to accelerate service turn-up and reduce service providers' time-to-revenue or time-to-service. The solution helps customers that are deploying CE 2.0 services, and also simplifies the provisioning and monitoring of those services.

Features include an on demand and proactive OAM fault performance management capability, offering service based performance statistics in real time and historical measurements. Service providers may also offer differentiated services from a catalog of granular service offerings, which is easily generated using service templates. These include automation of service centric OAM setups with point-and-click loopback, linktrace, service OAM and real-time fault and performance monitoring.

This aids service providers in monitoring their networks and helps them with SLA compliance.

Additional features include seamless integration with existing front and back office B-OSS and NMS systems, which is accomplished through open service provisioning and operations APIs along with MEF Standard CE 2.0 service definitions. Open service APIs enable easy service creation, as well as unified delivery of network services, with the automated provisioning of complex end-to-end tasks – along with a centralized point for service activation testing.

"With this release of Converge EMS, Transition Networks recognizes the value of adding a simpler way to manage functionality with the intent of making service providers' lives easier," said Jon Collins, senior product manager at Transition Networks. "Service providers will benefit tremendously by dramatically reducing the number of operational tasks and the cost associated with managing a complex carrier Ethernet network."
