GFI Fits MSP Chores in the Palm of Your Hand

By Doug Barney

GFI, a maker of security and management tools which just recently began pushing aggressively into the cloud, has a new remote monitoring and management (RMM) client tool that runs on Android.

The GFI MAX Android app is the mobile interface for the GFI MAX management tool, which is already supported by the Apple iPhone.

“The new Android app helps you and your team view and quickly fix customer problems while you're on the go - from retrieving the status of customer devices to checking asset information and clearing failed checks.  In fact, pretty much everything you'd expect to be able to do with your RMM tool no matter where you're sitting,” the company said.

Few IT administrators are chained to their desks, even those that work for MSPs. Mobile support lets these administrators spot and fix problems and track the overall health of the systems they are responsible for wherever they happen to be.

“With flexible alerting and viewing, the GFI MAX RemoteManagement tool helps you stay on top of all the networks you manage ‘round the clock, in a way that suits you best. Get a snapshot view of the current status across your entire network with the Web and mobile-based Dashboard,” the company said.

GFI Max supports alerts, so admins on their smartphone will hear about a problem as soon as it occurs, hopefully before the client places a support call. Admins can also view the overall status of their networks, and make changes and reconfigurations when needed.

“MSPs and IT support companies can configure e-mail and SMS alerts in seconds: by client, by check-type, in-hours/out-of-hours, in virtually any way. You'll get a short, accurate alert that informs you of the exact cause of the problem as soon as it arises so you can fix it fast -- all for just a few pennies per day.  And if you want an alert sent to a different destination depending on the time of day, this facility is provided too,” GFI said.

Other GFI tools for MSPs include host e-mail archiving and hosted e-mail security.

For end users and MSPs alike, GFI has moved to put its on-premises wares in the cloud through GFI Cloud. The idea is to offer identical features and functions of its management and other on-premises tools through a service.
