CA Technologies and Other Authentication Service Providers Recognized as Leaders by Gartner

By Laura Stotler

Authentication specialist CA Technologies has been named a leader once again by Gartner, Inc. The company has released its Leaders quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for User Authentication and evaluated a number of CA solutions in the report.

The Gartner report examined the CA AuthMinder and CA RiskMinder on-premise strong authentication solutions. Also evaluated was CA CloudMinder Advanced Authentication, which is the authentication-as-a-service component of the CA CloudMinder solution.

The company was named along with other industry leaders in authentication, including digital security provider Gemalto, authentication provider SafeNet, and RSA, which recently announced the RSA Authentication Manager 8.0 solution. The Gartner report forecasts that by 2017, more than 50 percent of enterprises will select cloud-based services as the delivery option for new or refreshed user authentication implementations.

That number is up from less than 10 percent currently.

The report goes on to point out that it is likely that on-premises solutions will remain in the game for the long term. This will be driven by risk-averse companies that want to keep full control of identity administration, credentialing and verification.

"We are living in a hybrid world when it comes to IT," said Mike Denning, senior vice president and general manager, security business at CA Technologies. "Very few, if any, organizations today are using 'all cloud' or 'all on-premises' solutions, especially when it comes to security. Our ability to provide identity and access management, advanced authentication and data protection solutions delivered on premises or as-a-service is perfectly aligned with this hybrid reality."

"We are proud to be placed in the Leader's Quadrant for user authentication, as well as in three other recent Gartner Magic Quadrant reports, including the Magic Quadrant for Identity and Access Governance; the Magic Quadrant for User Administration and Provisioning; and the Magic Quadrant for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention," he added. "We are working to keep these leader positions as we build the security solutions our customers need, delivered the way they want."
