Managed Service Provider Week in Review

By Laura Stotler

The outlook for global managed services within the telecom industry is very promising, according to a report released this week from Research and Markets. The forecast, in addition to a number of new services announcements and acquisitions, rounded out the major news in the managed service provider (MSP) space for the final week of March.

The managed services market within the telecom sector is forecast to grow at a CAGR of more than 17.78 percent from 2012 to 2016, according to the forecast from Research and Markets' TechNavio analysts. Growth will be propelled largely by a reduction in MSPs' overall expenses, as well as the increased adoption of cloud-based services.

The piece covers a number of key vendors in the space, including Ericsson, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens.

In other important industry news, Route 1, Inc. announced its new MobiLINK 1.0 public key infrastructure (PKI) technology. Designed to facilitate the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend within organizations of all sizes, the technology enables devices to connect securely over an unsecured network, like the public Internet. It uses certificates to create a secure TLS connection, enabling mobile employees to safely log into their employers' intranets.

LabTech Software unveiled its new Partner Innovation Network this week. The company is a developer of a remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform that is geared toward MSPs. The new program brings together partners to promote industry leadership and collaboration and enables members to access the company's upcoming strategies and technologies.

New technologies may also be tested through LabTech's pilot program.

Finally, cloud application services provider Velocity Technology Solutions, Inc. completed its acquisition of U.K. company velos-IT. A provider of managed services, hosting and consulting for European companies, velos-IT serves multiple industries with support of business applications and IT infrastructure, application deployment and systems integration.

The company's offerings will be integrated with Velocity's Universal Cloud Services Suite, which includes PaaS, IaaS and managed disaster recovery services.
