Appnomic Touts Next-Generation Remote Management Services

By Doug Barney

Seven year-old Appnomic Systems makes its living selling performance management as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), as a managed service, or as packaged on-premises software.

The company also offers preventative services, as well as IT automation services.

The Bangalore and Santa Clara-based company this week shipped Appnomic's RIMS+, a set of remote infrastructure managed services that includes fault and performance remediation, analytics for your IT operations, IT process automation, and performance managementyou’re your applications.

RIMS+, the suite of remote infrastructure managed services, is based in part on OpsOne, an Appnomic’s automation software system. This layer of automation is how the company can support RIMS+ with strong SLAs.

The firm believes automation also supports faster problem solving, settling IT incidents more quickly, and making it easier to respond to requests.

Appnomics in fact sees two main phases for outsourcing the management of your IT operations. First, you hand it off to an MSP. Then you automate those operations, also through an MSP. The goal, besides freeing up internal IT, is to save on operations costs and make your enterprise IT operations more agile.

Automation, simply put, takes away a lot of IT grunt work, such as support and maintenance.

After the IT operations are automated, an included set of Appnomics services called Automation Sustenance Service make sure the automation remains effective by providing “the required ongoing tweaks, adjustments and upgrades – to ensure the automation we design and implement remains relevant and creates constant value for our customers and helps them achieve sustained ROI out of their IT operations investments,” the company explained.

On the on-premises side, AppsOne – aimed at the automation of application management – and OpsOne are both available as traditionally packaged software to either automate traditional data centers or private clouds. These tools “prevent major IT incidents, accelerate system repairs, achieve new levels of compliance, and avoid major capital spends by better understanding application behavior complexities,” the company said.

Instead of being an all new offering, RIMS+ essentially takes OpsOne automation software and blends in IT and data center management.

The software is aimed as medium-sized to large companies, including providers in the cloud application, infrastructure and software development spaces.

One the MSP side, RIMS+ makes it easier to manage operations centers, and is said to cut those costs. "RIMS+ beta testing proves Appnomic delivers advanced technologies that add [up to and perhaps beyond] a 30-percent reduction in operational costs, without requiring massive investments or 'forklift' changes in technology," said Ray Solnik, Appnomic's U.S. president. "Our technology enabled RIMS+ offering can also be implemented in whichever way makes the most sense for our clients – a fully integrated ticketing platform, on pre-existing platforms or completely outsourced."
