Savvis Piloting Synacor Cloud E-mail Solution for Colocation Services

By Laura Stotler

Savvis will pilot a new cloud e-mail offering from Synacor Inc. using its colocation services, the companies announced. Synacor, a provider of cloud-based identity management (IDM) and other services, chose Savvis for the multi-year agreement, in which the company will offer direct access to managed security, structured cabling and consulting services.

Savvis, a CenturyLink company, will provide services via its carrier-diverse location facilities, with Synacor enabling webmail services for CenturyLink consumer Internet customers. Synacor is a provider of next-gen startpages and TV Everywhere solutions in addition to its IDM services, and offers solutions across a variety of devices for cable, satellite, telecom and consumer electronics companies.

Synacor powers the centurylink.net and mycenturylink.com consumer portals, which offer access to e-mail, news, games, support and social networks to subscribers through a central and customizable hub. The company's white-label platform is geared toward cable, satellite, telecom and consumer electronics companies, enabling them to deliver a variety of cloud-based services and apps to their end users.

Savvis maintains more than 50 data centers, offering more than two million square feet of gross raised floor space throughout North America, Europe and Asia. The company provides managed hosting and cloud services, in addition to enterprise-class colocation offerings.

"Synacor customers are located across the country, and we needed a high-availability data center partner that could help us not only reach our distributed customers without requiring additional headcount, but also up our game on the next-gen startpage and cloud email services we deliver," said Ralph Wasner, vice president, technical operations & IT for Synacor. "Savvis' unique colocation and consulting solution designed specifically for Synacor made it a perfect fit and easy choice."

"Our global data center footprint offers the foundational security, scale and stability businesses demand when working to ensure an optimal end-user experience in the most efficient manner possible," said Drew Leonard, vice president, colocation product management with Savvis. "We look forward to working with Synacor, the latest company to choose Savvis for colocation and managed security solutions, as they turn to the cloud to deliver robust and convenient email services for their customers."
