UnboundID Releases Latest Iteration of Identity Data Platform

By Erin Harrison

As businesses deal with the rapidly growing volume and transactions of identity data, Austin-based UnboundID has released the latest iteration of its Identity Data Platform, which is designed to provide greater levels of data unification, security and scalability.

UnboundID Identity Data Platform, version 4.0, has been expanded to help telecommunications, financial services, enterprise, mobile, and cloud services companies manage their customer identity data. Version 4.0 also provides a flexible and secure infrastructure for customers to productize and share identity data, according to Andy Land, vice president of UnboundID.

“We are living in an identity economy,” Land said in a statement. “As companies choose to leverage identity as an asset, the UnboundID Identity Data Platform can help them share and monetize identity data faster, easier and much more securely.”

UnboundID works to help companies create a unified customer profile so that no matter what part of the company is dealing with the customer, all the information on the prospect is available. With the rapid growth of mobile, social, and cloud applications, the data created by consumers is growing exponentially. Given this trend, users are leaving “footprints” all over several systems, which can hide the fact that those transactions all belong to the same identity, according to Forrester Research analyst Fatemeh Khatibloo.

“Forrester distinguishes four types of personal data: 1) individual identity data; 2) behavioral data; 3) derived data; and 4) self-identified data,” according to Forrester’s January 2012 report “Personal Identity Management Success Starts with Customer Understanding.”

UnboundID officials explained that a data platform helps companies unify and prioritize this information and provides a more insightful view of customer’s desires, needs and preferences, therefore allowing businesses to provide more personalized products and services.

The updated components of the UnboundID Identity Data Platform Version 4.0 include the following:

  • Identity Data Store: Securely manages and organizes data for sub-millisecond access.
  • Identity Proxy: Directs and secures data at scale, providing intelligent load distribution and fail-over capabilities.
  • Identity Data Sync: Synchronizes and updates data from multiple sources, allowing for real-time data access.

In addition to supporting accessibility through the LDAP and SCIM protocols, company officials said the platform increases usability by incorporating a generic REST-based Identity API. This new feature improves data access through common web development languages.

For the past three-and-a-half years, UnboundID has become an emerging leader in the field of next-generation identity management. Its Directory Services solutions help organizations deliver more revenue-generating applications while significantly lowering their costs for delivery, according to company officials.

UnboundID’s Steve Shoaff will discuss these topics today at the ITEXPO Miami 2013 session, “Transform the Customer Experience in the Identity Economy,” being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
