CloudBerry Lab Updates Managed Backup Service for MSPs with Amazon Glacier Support

By Laura Stotler

Cloud storage solution developer CloudBerry Lab has enhanced its Managed Backup Service to enable data archiving and backup through Amazon Glacier. The latest version of the service offers managed service providers (MSP) data archiving and backup that is up to 10 times cheaper, as well as secure and durable so they may pass along savings to their customers.

Managed backup service providers can significantly reduce their total costs with the new version of the solution, while keeping operating costs low through remote management and monitoring capabilities.

CloudBerry's Managed Backup Service is designed specifically for MSPs to maximize business continuity and avoid disruptions to their customers.

The offering is powered by CloudBerry's own backup software, along with Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier cloud storage. The company is an Amazon Web Services Advanced Technology Partner, and aims to help MSPs and their customers adopt cloud computing technologies through innovative, reduced cost solutions.

Benefits of the service, in addition to low costs, include the ability for MSPs to create additional revenue streams with little investment. CloudBerry assists clients' customers with initial configuration, and continuously monitors the backup processes on client machines, offering proactive alerts if any backups fail.

The company also assists end users with the restoration and recovery of data.

Additional features of the management panel include full rebranding of the backup client, as well as user backup quota and accounts management. Remote monitoring, billing, Web access and APIs for integrating the solution with clients' own applications are also included.

The backup client itself features real-time and scheduled backups, backup and restore wizards, client-side encryption, local and virtual disk backup and multi-part upload support.

The Amazon Glacier service offers low-cost cloud storage and was designed specifically for infrequently accessed data archiving and backup. The solution costs as little as $0.01 per gigabyte per month, providing MSPs with 90 percent savings over traditional on-premises storage solutions.

The offering is an affordable alternative to Amazon S3 storage that is specifically tailored toward infrequently accessed data since several hours of retrieval time may be necessary.

"We are very excited about the benefits Amazon Glacier delivers to our customers," said Alexey Serkov, CTO at CloudBerry Lab. "Low-cost Amazon Glacier storage in combination with CloudBerry Managed Backup solution allows service providers to start their own online backup business with no hardware cost and offers reliable online backup service under their own brand at very competitive prices."
